TfL needs a long-term funding deal, not continued delays

As the government and Mayor agreed a short-term funding deal for Transport for London, instead of a long-term solution, London Assembly Transport Committee Chair Caroline Pidgeon commented:

"The continued delays are not useful -recent passenger numbers are 40% of pre-pandemic levels on the Underground and 61% on the bus network. These levels will increase over time and Londoners need to know their transport needs will be met as demand grows.

"If TfL is to deliver £300 million of savings or new income sources in 2021 to 2022, where will these savings or this new income come from?

"What is needed now is a long-term deal and I sincerely hope this extra six months will give both sides the time to come to a longer-term financial settlement which London so desperately needs."
