Questions must now be answered on Met’s wider use of strip search

Answers to vital questions about the Met’s wider use of strip search must be provided, says the Liberal Democrat London Assembly Member Caroline Pidgeon.

In a letter to the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, Caroline asks for the answers to five key questions.

Caroline’s letter follows the publication this week of the safeguarding report that found that at the end of 2020, a 15-year old Black girl was strip searched by Metropolitan Police officers at her school without another adult present and in the knowledge that she was menstruating

Caroline Pidgeon said:

“This is a deeply shocking case which has had an immense impact on this young girl and her family.

“Despite the IOPC announcing they will look into this case, it is vital that action is taken to improve practices more widely and ensure a case like this never occurs again.”
