Met's plan on violence against women and girls needs more work

Caroline Pidgeon has responded to the Metropolitan Police's draft action plan on Violence Against Women and Girls, arguing that it needs a stronger focus on ethnic minority women, children and online grooming.

Caroline said:

"I welcome the recommendations made in the draft Violence Against Women and Girls Action Plan from the Metropolitan Police. I particularly am pleased that it recognises that cultural change is needed within the service to protect women and girls
.
"However, I strongly feel more recommendations are needed to reflect the work that needs to be done in re- building relationships with women and girls from our ethnic minority communities, particularly black women. I also feel some references need to be made to safeguarding children, particularly young girls, as this has been identified as a significant failure of the Met by HMICFRS. I also think the Met needs to reflect more on the work that needs to be done on protecting women and girls from online grooming."
