No to post office closures in Lambeth

Local Liberal Democrats across south London are gearing up to fight the latest government threat to Lambeth's post offices.

Post Office Ltd has announced that it is proposing to close branches all across South London including in Vauxhall. Lambeth post offices threatened with closure in Vauxhall include those at Acre Lane, Vauxhall Street and Clapham High Street, as well as Abbeville Road nearby in Clapham.

Vauxhall Parliamentary campaigner and London Assembly Candidate Caroline Pidgeon joined Streatham Parliamentary Campaigner Chris Nicholson and London Mayoral candidate Brian Paddick outside the threatened branch at Abbeville Road in Clapham.

"Our local post offices form the heart of local communities across south London. The Labour government has presided over the systematic dismantling of the post office network and ignored the wishes of local residents - they must think again and reverse these devastating plans" commented Caroline Pidgeon.

"Local post office branches offer a lifeline to so many local residents. These latest government threats to our communities are simply unacceptable and we will be fighting hard to stop any branch closures."
